JATA offering free transportation to cooling centers during extreme heat
JACKSON, Mich. (News 10) - The Jackson Area Transportation Authority is offering its Hot Ticket program during declared heat emergencies to help residents access cooling centers throughout the city.
The program is available when temperatures reach 90 degrees or higher. Free city bus passes will be provided to Jackson residents whose health may be at risk from extreme heat.
The passes may be used only during a declared heat emergency and are valid for transportation to designated cooling centers, including:
- The Department on Aging, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Westwood Mall, which is pet-friendly and open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- All Jackson District Library branches:
- Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
